Your privacy is very important to me, and you can be confident that your personal information will be kept safe and secure and will only be used for the purpose it was given to me. I adhere to the current data protection legislation, including the General Data Protection Regulation (EU / 2016/679) (the GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003. I also adhere to the ethical guidelines regarding protecting client privacy and confidentiality set by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am registered with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO ZB295144).

How I get the personal information and why I have it

The GDPR states that I must have lawful basis for processing your personal data. There are different lawful bases depending on the stage at which I am processing your data. If you have had therapy with me and it has now ended, I will use legitimate interest as my lawful basis for holding and using your personal information. If you are currently having therapy or if you are in contact with me to consider therapy, I will process your personal data where it is necessary for us to fulfil the therapy contract.  There may be instances where your personal information is provided to me via a third party, such as through a family member who you have consented to reach out on your behalf for therapy.

The personal information you provide through forms on this website or through emailing me is collected and used to provide you with a service and includes internal record keeping.

The following information is collected:

  • Name, contact information including email address, postal address and telephone numbers in order to contact you to make an appointment and to ensure your safety when I am providing a counselling service.
  • Information relevant to your preferences
  • If disclosed on your enquiry; information about your current health, wellbeing and medical history, including injuries.
  • Cookies to help to provide you with a better website.

All your personal information is stored securely and is kept confidential. I will not sell or pass on your information to third parties. I will not contact you for any other purposes.

How I store your personal information

Your personal information is stored on my email account, which is password protected and a laptop and mobile phone. Both the mobile phone and laptop that I use to respond to any of your emails, are password protected. Any email correspondence that I deem vital to store, will be stored on password protected device, such as the laptop or mobile phone.   

While I take all reasonable steps to protect your data, digital services supplied by third party providers (including and not limited to website, phone, email and video-conferencing), are not within my control. I cannot be held liable, responsible or accountable for data breaches attributable to third party providers.

Your data protection rights

Under data protection law, you have rights including:

Your right of access – You have the right to ask me for copies of your personal information.
Your right to rectification – You have the right to ask me to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask me to complete information you think is incomplete.

Your right to restriction of processing – You have the right to ask me to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you.
